Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry is a critical component of the Catholic mission at Lumen Christi. In recent years, Campus Ministry has evolved into a comprehensive pastoral program that includes retreats, spiritual formation in liturgical season (e.g. Advent, Lent), local and international service outreach, masses, penance services, and environmental stewardship.

7th and 8th Grade Retreat

The Lumen Christi Angling Club provides students with an alternative activity other than traditional clubs, sports, and activities, etc. The mission of the Lumen Christi Anglers is to provide an opportunity for students to fish, to teach others how to fish, and to be environmentally aware in a responsible, ethical, and Christian manner. In following the mission, students will learn patience, perseverance, appreciation for nature and the environment, and how to use time in a meaningful way. The Angling Club meets every other Wednesday. In the past, we have fished on Lake Columbia, Clark Lake, Peterson Lake, and Vandercook Lake. We will continue our efforts in environmental clean-up, fishing trips, casting competition and species presentations.

7th and 8th Grade Advent and Lenten Retreat Days
During Religion classes, for one week in Advent and one week during Lent, the 7th and 8th grade students participate in different activities including a prayer service, journaling, and reconciliation, with the aim of growing closer to the living Christi in celebration of His coming and in sorrow for His passion and crucifixion. The Light He brings with His resurrection powers the retreats.
9th thru 12th Grade L.C. School Retreat
Each year the LC School Retreat is held on campus during school hours. The hope for this retreat is that it will bring to life the focus of the Church and its theme for the year.
10th Grade Tenui Retreat
Lumen Christi’s sophomore retreat is based on the virtues taught in the Golden Counsels of St. Francis De Sales. The title comes from the Latin phrase, Tenui nec dimittam, “I have taken hold, and I will not let go” found in the Song of Songs in Hebrew Scriptures. Tenui is an overnight retreat scheduled twice a year and is held on the shores of beautiful Vineyard Lake at Camp De Sales, located in Brooklyn. Students join the retreat to get away from the stresses and worries of everyday teenage life. At camp, they dwell instead in the present moment of time in prayer and reflection, and listen to personal talks from student and adult leaders about serving God and living in this world we share. Fun and trust is shared in various team building activities.
11th and 12th Grade Kairos
Kairos is a Greek word meaning “the appointed time in the purpose of God.” Our first retreat in 2003 set us in full stride for the future. Since that time juniors and seniors have looked forward to the opportunity to attend this spiritually influential retreat. The retreat is a shared moment in God’s time that reaches beyond the brick walls of our school, to the hearts of our students as they learn to give back, growing in their faith to be active Christians in society.

Service for Jesus

“There is no service too small in the service of the Lord”

St. Francis de Sales

Jamaica Bound Missionaries

For over ten years, Lumen Christi students have been traveling to Jamaica to live and work with the local community. The encounter of a culture that is entrenched in poverty and hardships, yet deeply steeped in an optimistic joyful outlook on life, is extremely powerful. Some students have returned year-after-year to Jamaica and others have kept in touch with different people they have met on the journey.

Interfaith Shelter Project
The Interfaith Shelter Project is led by student and faculty volunteers who gather, cook and serve dinner twice a month at the local Jackson Interfaith Shelter. This community resource provides a place to stay and care for those homeless and in need and is dependent on volunteers to serve.
ThanksLIVING - All Students and Staff Give Back to the Community
Lumen Christi students, faculty and staff participate in ThanksLiving, an annual event held each year on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. As a faith community, our spirit of service is offered by our giving back to the local community, engaging in all kinds of activities that provide a helping hand as we give Thanks and prepare for God’s gift of the living Christ celebrated each Christmas. The half-day event is our opportunity to do God’s work through the coordinated hands of many.
